Now way of verifying the identity of a call cente

I received a call from 011-4896000. While the person introduced himself as calling from Nedbank debt collection, I googled the number. All the listings on goolgle all said it is an insurance company from Braamfontein. The second listing was from SA yellow pages [URL Removed] with the heading "Profile for A C A INSURERS LTD (BRAAMFONTEIN) on SA Yellow."

The agent first wanted me to verify myself by supplying personal information. Banks are quick to request confirmation, but their attitude changes very quickly if the client does the same.

The person said he will get another call agent to phone me, but did not hang up the phone. I could hear him typing vigorously on his keyboard for minutes. After I eventually found a reference for the phone number to Nedbank, I tried to speak to him, but just got ignored and he continue to type. I tried to phone back the number, but you cannot phone that number.

I am not going to disclose any information over the phone if the number shown is googled as an insurance company in the all the listings of the search engin, that is a bad start to your call to start of with. Get your IT department to go on SEO course and learn about key wording.
