I have been into the Standard Bank 4 times and called them on multiple occasions in the past nine months relating to a small amount. I cancelled my account in September last year because the service that I was receiving was shocking and I felt like enough was enough, so I moved banks. In September last year I went into the bank, a gentleman helped me close all of my accounts, I settled everything to zero balances and he cut up my cards in front of me. I now had no access to online banking, no cards and what I thought was nothing more to do with SB.
Since then I have received SMS'es relating to an outstanding amount on my account a few weeks later and went into the bank to query it and I was assured that it was a mistake and that my accounts had in fact been closed. A few weeks later the same story happened and once again I went into the bank to try find out what is going on.
I now have threatening letters regarding a small outstanding amount that I will obviously pay in order to prevent being blacklisted, but on principle it's disgusting that money can still be taken off what I thought was a closed account and I must now pay fees and interest for 9 months. Good riddance!
