After extremely poor service and many frustrations I finally switched from Standard Bank and closed ALL my standard bank accounts - October 2011. I was in the room when the clerk called cards division and cancelled my cards. With all accounts settled she handed me my remaining cash and I walked out with a huge sense of relief that my banking nightmares were over.
Now, after being unable to open a new cell phone account due to a "failed credit check", I logged onto Transunion and downloaded my free credit check report. To my horror, my squeaky clean credit record is tainted by a red line under what should be a CLOSED ACCOUNT - Standard Bank Garage Card.
Standard Bank have demonstrated a new level of incompetence in the handling of my accounts by somehow managing to resurrect a closed account and send it into arrears in June 2012. Then notifying Transunion of this but not once even notifying me - the account holder of this closed account!
I find it amazing how even 2 years after I have closed my accounts, Standard Bank are still finding ways to make my life difficult...
