I recently travelled to the USA and tried to ensure that my personal luggage (clothing, shoes etc) was covered by my Household insurance. After spending the best part of an hour on the telephone to try and explain to the person that I was talking about bras, panties, shoes, tops and bottoms only, I was told that R. 20000.00 was over the limit and needed special approval, then I was put on hold, and then disconnected! I then sent off an email to ensure that I was covered, as I was leaving Sunday, 5.5.13 and could not wait for them to enquire on Monday 6th! I specifically stated that I was only reachable via SMS. Upon my return I found an email dd. 7.5.13 asking me to specify the personal posessions again! That person did not read my email at all! This resulted in me not being insured during my travels (I guess). Had I been contacted as specified, I could have been insured adequately!
The same problem occured to me when I tried to get insurance for a new car - I was contacted back after a week! Far too late!
The consultants seem to have no authority act swiftly and their comeback time is just too slow!
Who now pays for my damaged baggage???
