Discovery Insure (Glenda Wood) has advised me company refuses to pay out for household contents during armed in driveway of our 4-unit security complex (robbers slipped in behind my wife while entering driveway). Insurance was taken out over telephone in July 2012 effective 1-8-2012 and only policy document received was 11-page Discovery Insure Plan Policy Schedule and Benefit Limit Annexure by e-mail. Discovery refuses to pay because the goods were not inside the dwelling! According to the Annexure it states General clothing and personal effects are covered for the greater of 20% of the sum insured or
R1500-00 and jewellery for R5000-00 for any one item without a valuation certificate. When I took out the insurance over the telephone I was at no stage advised that I should take out portable possession cover and when we received the Policy Schedule and Annexure we believed it to be the cover we had taken out! (When checking another large insurance company website it was stated that portable possessions cover forms part of your package when you insure the contents of your home). This is shocking treatment and I am still waiting for proof of advice re above!
