Card declined

I was with a friend at The One And Only on Friday night (25th May 2013). She is a singer, so I sat by myself for a while, and bought food and a drink. I was then joined by six of her friends, and the waitress brought my bill. She brought a machine, popped my card in, and I inserted my pin. My card was declined - in front of everyone. I told her to try again, as I knew that I had sufficient funds, but it was declined again. She then suggested that she'd bring another machine. I wanted to crawl under the table with embarrassment.

The waitress brought the second machine, and with everyone watching, my card was declined again. I asked whether I could do an EFT, and the waitress asked whether I had another card, which I don't. She then went off to speak to the manager. My friend had packed up her microphone etc., and come to join us, so when the waitress came back, and said that I could go through to the manager, my friend took out the cash, and paid for my bill. When I got home I sent a complaint to the FNB website, but have not yet had a response.
