I was at Nando's in Harrismith on Wednesday 4th August. I asked for the bill and the waitress brought it to me and when she saw I wanted to pay by credit card she told me that I couldn't add her tip to the credit card payment because there was no way for the tip to be paid to her if I did it that way.
I suspect that one of two things is happening:
1) The owner/manager is either withholding all, or some of the tip if it's added to the credit card payment
2) Tips paid in this manner are being pooled and shared amongst staff
Either situation is distasteful, the first being distasteful AND against the law. Please investigate this. I could see that the waitress was embarrassed by having to ask, and it inconvenienced me because i didn't have any cash available to pay a tip. I had to draw at the ATM to get some cash.
