On 9 May I left work half an hour early, battled the traffic for more than an hour to arrive just before House & Home closed at 18:00. I had already phoned ahead and knew they had stock of the gifts I wanted to purchase.

When I tried to pay for it, my credit card was declined. I thought this was odd since their app on my phone showed that I had plenty of limit left.

Disheartened I had to leave House & Home without the gifts. After several phone calls to Customer Care, I finally was put through to the right department. Charlene admitted that this was due to an error on their side and promised to get a customer service representative to phone me back to compensate me for my time, trouble, inconvenience and embarrassment as a result of their error.

But alas, the call never came. I phoned back to hear what happened and again was told that the representative would phone me before close of business on 10 May. More than a week ago.

I can clearly no longer rely on this credit card as it can be declined for no reason. I can also not rely on Standard Bank to keep their word and do what they said they will.
