After being insured with Mutual and Federal for several years and no claim, I had a of my handbag and the contents which included car keys, mobiles, camera, identity documents, bank cards, licence cards, etc.at a business meeting at a 5-star hotel in Milnerton. To get authorisation to open my car and move it to a dealer to supply me with a key took almost a day and I was stranded in the middle of nowhere (in the middle of the night).
On contacting the representative and the call centre, I discovered that the original request to insure myself (personal), as well as my two businesses and read 'M Benade; Brisa Atlantica Guesthouse and Montavigus Projects & Tours' was changed by who ever, to read 'M Benade t/a Brisa Atlantica Guesthouse and Montavigus Projects & Tours'. The t/a resulted in refusal to pay out anything 'personal' under 'All Risk' because it is 'business insurance'.
Fortunately it was only a handbag that made me realise that I cannot trust the organisation with only the size of my handbag, therefore I will not be able to trust them with my business or the rest of my insurance.
I was stranded in Cape Town for a week and continuous wasting of time and money.
