I started studying in 2008 and have been with Standard Bank for all my life, I have a check, savings, student loan and my car loan with them, so this year I went to them for an extension on my student loan, they have a clear policy on when you are a full time student, you only repay your loan once you've done studying, and in that case you have to have a surety.
Now I was cleared to be a surety, the only difference is they marked me as full time employed and part time studying, when in fact I am full time study (on paper) and also full time employed, only taking study leave when needed.
This they could not understand, nor did they want to compromise saying that on the form I am cleared as surety and can start repaying the loan amount when in fact I am still studying, or just get myself a new surety.
My biggest issue is that they were not open for discussion or changing their policy, no to them I was just a number and so long as they got the loan repayment I am a fit surety, but just repaying the interest as their leaflet says whist finishing study and working, no that they simply do not want to help me achieve on my own.
I am very disappointed in their top management.
