I received a visit from one of your consultants saying that he is representing DMC and that the matter is regarding a Vehicle FInance Account I had with Standard Bank in early 2000. He said that the reference for the contract no is 14550691 . I was told that this debt was sold to DMC by Standard bank. Standard bank or DMC has never contacted me in the last 3 years to claim payment of this account and in terms of the Prescription Act certain debts are to be written off if not claimed within 3 years of last payment. Also, it is stated that the creditor has 3 years to attempt to contact the debtor regarding these accounts. Recent contact from DMC today was the first time since early 2000 since I've been contacted by anyone regarding my Standard Bank Vehicle Finance account. As to my knowledge, which was confirmed by my Attorney, as per the Prescription Act, I do not have to repay this debt any longer as it has lapsed past the 3 year mark. I ask that DMC resolve this issue failing which legal action will be taken against DMC and Standard Bank. I have had a similar matter with DMC which was resolved amicably by your company where you admitted that the debt has prescribed.
