I recently received a statement from Real people for a debt owing to them, I have never heard of this company before, I then made contact with Real People who referred me to DMC as they are dealing with my account. I have tried calling DMC but their numbers are constantly engaged.
I've never been contacted by anyone regarding this account in over 3 or 4 years, I cannot recall that's how long its been. As to my knowledge, which was confirmed by the NCR, as per the Prescription Act, I do not have to repay these debts as it has lapsed past the 3 year mark. Prescription is 3 years, I'm not sure if DMC is aware of that or maybe they are not governed by this Act. DMC has also put a trace alert on my name with the ITC regardless of them having my contact details and having contacted me on this. Surely there are rules and laws that have to be complied with by debt collectors.
I am frustrated and plan to seek legal advice on this matter. I intend to also approach the ombudsman for Credit Bureaus to take action against Trans union ITC for illegally displaying out-dated information on my credit report without requesting details of the transactions involved.
