Account not closed as instructed and promise

Hi
I'm a customer of Nedbank Lady Grey in Paarl, South Africa. In 2012 I had trouble with debit orders that I could not removed from my bank account. I went to Wayne at Nedbank Lady Grey, Paarl to asked if I could stop this deductions. Wayne told me that I could closed this account and open a new bank account. But my bank account was -R160, 00. Wayne told me that the account must be zero that it could be closed. I made the payment and the account was 0, 00. This happened on the 28/09/2012. Since then the account was not closed and their legal department want me to pay the outstanding amount of R6800, 00.
Wayne send me to Miss de bruyn and another lady in charged of them, but still there was no positive responds from them.
I'm shocked that a financial institution can threat a client like this.
