I was set to fly home to Cape Town from Lanseria at 08:55 on 25 February 2013 on a Kulula flight (MN463). I checked-in online to ensure that I would be able to make the flight as I was travelling from a far distance to Lanseria. With the morning traffic in Johannesburg, I thought this would be wise. I had one small bag to check in.
I arrived at the airport at 08:20 and rushed to check my bag in. After waiting 10 minutes in the line for the bag drop, where no one was sitting, I was finally helped. The clerk behind the counter did not greet me, she just asked for my ID. When I said which flight I was on, she said that I would not be able to check my baggage as that option was already closed. I asked how that could be possible and what the point was of checking-in online if I could not check baggage when I was still 30 minutes early. She said that there was absolutely nothing that could be done and that I could either leave my bag behind or pay a fee to take a later flight. She did nothing to try and assist me. She was rude and totally unprofessional!
I was forced to take the 08:30 flight which caused me to be late for work and meetings in Cape Town. I had to pay an extra R582!
