I needed a pkace to stay in Cape Town for 10 days and so looked online for a backpacker. I found Rivetlodge Backpackers which seemed to be lovely by looking at the photographs.
I was expecting a 3 star backpacker but what a shock I got when I arrived there. Firstly, there was nobody at reception. The security guard who I was told would open for me was drunk. When I was eventually let in, 4 hours later, 4 hours in the rain, I was very disappointed. There were people lyimg around the lounge area drunk and high (these people smoke weed all day long in the lounge). There was a half naked man in underwear sitting outside of my room for all of my stay. The bedrooms look nothing like the photos online. The showers were the worst part, if you like to shower in privacy, this is not the place for you. The toilet was, the dirtiest I have ever seen.
When I tried to speak with the owner, he ignored me for about 25 minutes, I stood waiting for him but he must have come straight out of the mental hospital which is right around the corner.
This is place is not in a safe area, crime is bad in South Africa but at this place you are sure to be robbed.
I had to leave that day, I spent a day there, did not spend the night but when I asked if I could get a small refund for my 10 day stay, they refused.
I have to warn anyone thinking of staying at this place, really, look elsewhere for your own good.
Especially if you are a female.
