Impossible to get through

We have a flight today at 7pm from Cape Town to Johannesburg, but wanted to see if we could change to earlier flight for urgent family reasons.

The flight had been booked with avios air miles, and the website, the ticket office at the airport and customer care line all indicated the only way to change the flight was to speak to a specialized avios representative.

I held on the phone for the avios rep for 25 min, but there was no answer. The ticket office also tried to put me through and I tried calling more times. In total I spent about an hour on the phone and was unable to get hold of an avios representative.

In the end I gave up. The avios miles is a rewards programme, for valued british airways customers. Yet using avios points, I was treated like a second clasd citizen, unable to find out if I could change my ticket after an hour of trying. For a regular customer though, I could have immediately changed my ticket at the airport or on the normal customer care line, where someone actually answers.

This doesn't make sense. I will look to use other airlines and rather enroll in their rewards programmes.
