Ripped off by excessive prices

We checked in on-line earlier the morning however, when we got to the airport to print out our boarding passes it wouldn't work which delayed us. We then proceeded to the counter, when we got to the counter to check in / get our boarding passes we were told its too late to check our bags in which was 40mins before the flight (bearing in mind their queues were long as they were slow at the counters.. They then said we have to buy a new ticket which was the same price as our return flights which is extremely excessive and disturbing! I understand a "penalty" (eventho it was out of our control) had to be paid but why R1500 each =R3000 we were not even late but paid because we just wanted to be home with our family! The lady at ticket sales actually laughed at us because of the price which was very distasteful at the time rubbing in our faces that we had to pay for a new ticket while they announced our flight was busy boarding, which we could have made!! Kulula prices are such a rip off and they provide mediocre services and no meals - instead they sell expensive sandwiches and snacks. What happened to what Nelson Mandela created Ubuntu???
