My niece was booked for a flight from Johannesburg to Cape Town via SAA with a child minder on flight. When we arrived at the airport 1 hour and 15 minutes early, we were told by the weighing in attendant that only one bag would be allowed. We did not know this as it was not clear when we made the booking. He said she would be able to take it as hand luggage and did not weigh it. When we got to the counter, a rude man informed us to go to the ticket office and pay R250 for the additional bag. We proceeded to the ticket office and tried to explain, but was rudely told that this is the ticket office and we should just pay. The lady could not find the bag on the system as it was not weighed. She sent us back to the previous desk. Then we were told that it weighed more than 10kg's - without the bag being there since it was already sent away! We paid R250. After getting the boarding pass we asked where to go and was told. We bought my niece lunch to go and returned. We were 2 minutes late. We had to go to the same rude man and ask him to take her to the plane. He refused. A lady came and again scolded us. I started crying asking her to forgive us and just help. She did.
