Cancellation of confirmed flights

We booked flights on SAA using our Voyager miles for a round trip to Durban, flying out tomorrow Friday the 14th of June. Our flight confirmation was sent to us via email on the same day the flights were booked, namely 6 June, and everything seemed to be in good order. This afternoon (Thursday 13 June), 1 day before our scheduled travel, my husband received a call from the Voyager call centre stating that our flights had been cancelled due to airport taxes not being paid by us. At no point was the fact that we would have to still pay for airport taxes communicated to either myself or my husband. Had it been communicated at the time our flight confirmations had been sent, the taxes would have been paid with no issues on our side. Furthermore, at no point in time did the Voyager call centre attempt to contact us to notify us of the outstanding airport taxes on our. They have our work telephone numbers, cellphone numbers as well as email addresses on file yet no communication was sent!! As loyal SAA customers, to be told that our flights have been cancelled on the afternoon before we are scheduled to fly out is completely unacceptable and unprofessional! Terrible service!!
