How does this happen?

A month and a half ago my brand new iPhone 4S stopped charging, which is a very critical error. So within one day my phone was useless. I got this phone on a contract from my local MTN branch in George, I gave the phone in 2 weeks before my warranty wad due to expire. When I gave the phone in there was a problem, my sim tray serial number did not match the one the phone was supposed to have. After an hour of struggling we managed to sort the problem out. So in it went. After a month of using one of my old phones (i was not offered a phone while I wait) I got an sms to come pick up my phone. When I got there I was shocked to learn that my phone was not repaired in any way. They say that they cant repair it if the sim tray number does not match, and wanted me to take the phone back. I refused and told them that the warranty has now expired, and tried to explain that we sorted the problem out when i brought the phone. It has now been almost 2 weeks after the second time that the phone has been sent in and still no word on if it is being repaired or what. This is unacceptable! Waiting almost two months for my phone, and I fear its still not being repaired!
