After being contacting yesterday 19th Feb 2013, by the MTN store in Springs to collect my cellphone upgrade, I drove from Rivonia to Springs for the said collection. I was then told by the manager that the MTN systems were offline. Whilst I understand that this can occur, and it is in no way their fault, the manager did not offer any assistance thereafter, nor was I informed that such a system failure occurred at any point in the day.
It is not an unrealistic expectation that a manager provide me with branch details or even contact an alternative branch on my behalf to determine whether my desired phone was available closer to my home considering the 75 km distance that I had just travelled to collect it. My concern was that should I go to the MTN store in Rivonia that they will advise me (again) that I cannot be located on the system, which I informed the manager thereof. I was told that there was nothing that they could currently do for me, and that I should return to the store the next day. The manager's belligerent behaviour and overall poor attitude towards me was surprising. After speaking to colleagues, I have received the same overall impression about MTN in general.
