My son Geoffrey Neame who is deaf was sold a 2 year MTN cellphone contract by Shannon Leak at the Bayside Shopping Centre in Table View. Firstly the incorrect contract was sold, Geoffrey is deaf and can only sms so requires BBM facility to communicate with family. Secondly Geoffrey communicates in sign language so he did not understand the ramifications of the contract, let alone how the fancy phone that he was sold even worked. Thirdly the consultant saw his payslips so that she must have seen that he cannot afford to pay for the contract, so that clearly she did not have the customers best interest at heart only her own need to make a sale at any cost. MTN was asked to change the contract to something more suitable and affordable for Geoffrey but flatly refused to assist in any way. Geoffrey has just been billed over R1 600 as he does not understand that using data increases his bill. Needless to say that the debit order was not met as the contract sold is way over his budget. This problem will continue and this was explained to MTN but they simply were not interested.
