Blackberry under warranty, not repaired or replace

My Blackberry Bold just suddenly one day started rebooting every now and again. Even while lying on my desk, without me touching it. The phone still worked perfectly when making or receiving calls, BBM's, etc.
On 1 March 2013 I gave it in an Autopage Tygervalley, Bellville, Cape Town, as the phone is still under warranty. The person at the branch said that it could be a software problem.
This morning I received a message: "Dear Autopage client your repair handset has not been fixed it is unfortunately BER, please collect the handset at tygervalley autopage, kind regards."
My daughter phoned Autopage Tygervalley to enquire what BER means. Mari said it meant "Beyond economical repair". She said it means there could have been water damage, or something, to which my daugther said that the cellphone was not near water at all. We want the real reason why they say it's beyond repair. No reason could be given on exactly what is wrong with the phone, etc. My daughther said to her but the phone is still under warranty - why is it then not replaced? Mari asked whether we've got insurance on the phone. What does that have to do with it? It's still under warranty?
