I applied for an uncapped ADSL package through Afrihost on the 14th of January. At this stage I was under the impression that my Telkom line is active and that it would be a simple transfer process to Afrihost to manage the account. Only AFTER the ADSL account had been activated and a protata amount was payable I was notified the Telkom line needs to be re-activated and this usually takes between 7-14 working days. I immediately notified Afrihost that I cannot use the service until the line is active and it would take a week or two. I got the process rolling with Telkom. They replied saying I will only be billed once the Telkom line has been handed over to them. To my SHOCK, the debit order was submitted on my account this morning (16th) and it bounced due to insufficient funds. I was only going to do the transfer once Telkom advised me the line is active. So not only am I being charged for a service I can't yet use but the returned payment also cost me R138. To me this is totally unacceptable!!! Why can't the prorata amount be calculated from the first time I log in??!! Why is their no option to specify FROM which date the bandwidth should be available???!!!
