Cellphone not able to read sim card

I recently purchased a samsung galaxy s4 from Cellc on contract. The phone subsequently is unable to read the sim card. I took it to cellc and asked them for a new phone as this is clearly a very serious issue. The clerk however told me it had to be taken in for evaluation first. It has been in for the evaluation and has now been handed to a third party. It has been a month since I have given the phone in. It is clearly irreparable, and I do not see the need to continue with this process. I have made repeated attempts to find out the progress of the process, but the customer service at cellc is appalling and they are unable to give me any tangible feedback. If the phone does return, what guarantee will there that it will work fine and not break again in 6 months. Will I have to follow this ridiculous process again? I am very disappointed and irritated with the way cellc has handled this situation.
