MTN will not cancel my contract after 25 months

In December 2011 I made the mistake of taking out an MTN smartphone contract. I had no signal at my house, at my work, and no internet signal anywhere. After 6 months of fighting with MTN, 3 sim swaps and sending my phone in twice (no fault found of course) I decided to buy a Vodacom sim card which I have been using since. I had no option but to continue to pay the R299 per month to MTN, because at the time I could not afford the R8500 that I was quoted to terminate the contract.

The contract was due to expire on 12 December 2013. I gave the necessary one month notice period and cancelled the contract on 14 November 2013 (2 hours spent in the Clearwater MTN store due to extremely incompetent staff who had no idea what they were doing).

I have just been billed for January. I have since been to MTN Clearwater and MTN Sandton and on both occasions the sales staff sat on hold for over an hour to their call centre, which neither of them managed to get through to.

I received a confirmation e-mail in November when it was cancelled yet I am still being billed, and the current system makes it impossible to follow up on!!!

Cancel my contract PLEASE!!!
