Vodacom
Impossible to know data usage

In Aug I purchased a 2GB pm data package. Came with a Wi-Fi router that can host multiple devices. The router displayed total data usage, but it did not reset at the beginning of the month, so wasn't possible to know from it how much data had been consumed during a particular billing period. Supposed to receive warning SMSs when you approach your data cap, but were set up to go to the router SIM, which could not display. Vodacom website only tells you if you exceeded your data cap, and not by how much. Billing information also doesn't tell how much data you were using. Therefore no way to track data usage.

Dec I received a R3500 bill for Nov - first indication that I was exceeding my cap. I tried to ascertain how much data I had used thus far in Dec, but was impossible. In Jan a bill arrived for R6200 - despite automatic billing cap of R5000. Then they locked my account, even though there was data available for Jan, which I ended up losing.

Had I known my data situation, I would have been able to buy additional data at less than 10% of the cost. Vodacom is quite deliberate in withholding information in order to get people to overspend, and pay ten times more for the same product.
