I really don't know what is happening to Afrihost. I have always liked them but now moving my focus to other companies.
I recently registered a new domain on a very low package. I then bought a script I want to use on the hosting and after trying to install it, I found that I need a database and thus needed to upgrade my hosting package to one which will give me a database.
Once you do an upgrade of any hosting package, you will be charged 12 months in advance for the hosting. So a normal upgrade of R39 per month, will now cost you R468.00 to upgrade. What kind of is that? No other hosting company does this.
So to others who have the same problem. All you do is cancel your current hosting and then register a new one on the right package. The domain name still belongs to you and they cannot charge you for that again. The complete process will cost you only around R100 depending on the package you take. Still much better than the R468.00
Many of us build websites to sell them, but with this dumb idea Afrihost came up with, it is just not worth hosting with them anymore.
