I have a website with a sql server database that I am hosting with Afrihost on one of their shared hosting packages. When I want to do debugging on the live database, I can not connect because they do not allow this (their servers can't handle it). To get access to your database you need to log a support call, then one of the technicians will make a backup of your database then drop it somewhere, so that you can get it and restore it locally.
This process is a joke, I know, but I have made peace with it.
The problem is they CAN NOT make a backup of my database, without screwing it up. The backup is always half the size of the database, and when I try and restore it, it is an empty database. Then after a few angry emails someone gets it right and I have my database (usually takes about 2-5 days to get a simple backup)
Surely if you have the policy to force us to get backups, then you should be competent enough to make the backups.
I have emailed the CEO (Gian), with the complaint, and I am being ignored by him, none of the technical people can help me sort this out.
So for now, i'll try hellopeter, maybe this will help wake them up, to improve their SERVICE...
