Why cancelled?

I had recently (6th December) phoned in to 8ta to request how much i owe on my account as i had skipped a month and wanted to unlock my phone. i got the details, did the payment and forwarded a letter with my name ID proof of payment and request to unlock the number. everything was done swiftly and without problem within 2 hours.
BUT THEN!!!
on the 14th of December my phone went off to emergency calls only. when i phoned 8ta to ask what was going on they told me it was a system error and that the contact has been CANCELLED!!! i very much lost my cool and demanded they fix this.By Tuesday i found out that they had cancelled the contract and sent me an email to say that i owe nothing. i went in to the store and again they confirmed this. they have even passed on my number to a different client as of today! i asked for a different contract. it was approved in 15 min and would be active in 1 hour. but 2 days later they told it was declined! how does this system work?
