Poor ADSL Line Quality

We applied for a Telkom uncapped 1Mbit ADSL package this week. Great response from sales and good communication via sms. We collected the self-installation package yesterday and were online less than an hour after opening the box. Really great service!

I have noticed however, that the ADSL connection drops and resumes every few minutes, going from reasonable speeds right down to 0kbps then back up again. This isn't a problem for web browsing, but it is a huge problem for downloads that can't resume when interrupted. Being able to do large updates (500MB to 2GB) for a gaming console is one of the primary reasons we took out the contract.

It seems like I've purchased a service that doesn't work quite as advertised. Online gaming is listed on the packaging as one of the intended uses, yet I can't update either the system software on our PS3 or the games themselves.

I've checked and double checked the cable connections, turned off the router for 30 mins and then restarted it, and a host of other suggestions I found online, but the interrupted download problem remains, whether devices are connected wirelessly or with a network cable.
