Upon arrival to the airport i was told in the store that i can only rent a SIM card (not true) and was offered outrageously expensive deal.
the sales person told me that buying a SIM as a tourist is impossible but later i discovered that all i had to to is present my family's address in SA.
i turned out paying more than 1, 000R for 3 weeks of SIM card usage with less than 2GB data usage and about 30 minutes of calls.
In the past 2 years, I have bought SIM cards in Kenya, Thailand, the US, Holland, Germany etc. The most expensive one was the US, where I paid 60$ for unlimited calls and 3 GB data at T-Mobile (cheapest was Safaricom in Kenya, where a similar package costs 15$).
their prices are pure rip off!!
