My phone is always dead

I bought Nokia Lumia 720 from MTN direct in 05/2013. The phone died in 06/2013 and I took it back to them for repair. I was told that it was going to take two to three weeks to fix the phone and that everything I stored in that phone will be lost. Now my phone is dead again and I was told the same story. When I bought this phone, I needed a reliable phone and right now this phone is not serving its intended purpose. You go to a function and you took some pictures and videos and when you get home the phone is dead. You took it back to them for repair and they say everything will be deleted and then you spent three weeks without a phone. I don't deserve this. As a paying customer I expect value for my money and MTN is not doing me any justice. I didn't sign that my phone should always be at the service. I mean the phone is only five months old and it died two times already. My question is how long will this continue? Are they expecting me to pay for a phone which is always at the service? What exactly am I paying for, phone or sim card? Is it safe to store anything in that phone knowing that it can die any time? Can I rely on this phone? Can I give out this number as my no?
