Still charging me

I received a call for a cell phone contract last year April from 8Ta. good deal. Received the hanmdset and they said after 2/3 days the phone will be active. Phone is activated after 2 weeks of me phoning almost everyday from my personal phone. Eventually I am able to make calls, but ONLY from 8Ta to 8Ta. this was not part of the sales pitch. I refused the contract immediately as they mis-lead me. They said they will cancel the contract and send a courier to collect the package. Everything went smooth until last week. I received a SMS from VVM attornies stating I owe R800 odd. WFT for??? they said outstanding fees. Then I phone 8Ta and am told its because they sent a courier to collect and is at my cost. I still refused to pay R800 for curier fees and opening of box. Now today i get told it is cancellation fees. I HAD THE PHONE FOR 2 WEEKS in my possession, no calls made NOTHING!!! what can a person do. Are there legal departments that can assist? What about the national consumer protection act???
