I just cancelled an MTN post-paid contract early as I am leaving the country.
I freely accepted that I must settle the outstanding value of the phone. What is unacceptable, however, is the loss of the airtime value that I have accrued while under contract thus far. According to when I call 258, I have R666 airtime value left which I must now forfeit and cannot transfer to the prepaid ported sim.
My wife also cancelled her Vodacom contract and her outstanding airtime value of more than R700 was transferred to her prepaid ported sim, which demonstrates it's an onerous MTN condition and not a general industry standard.
