Phone in for repairs

I sent my phone (Sony Xperia Z) in for assesment as to what was wrong and to get it fixed. My phone was in for two weeks, then told to collect. When collecting, nothing had been done and no quote provided. The guy guessed saying it irrepairable, on the worksheet it said nothing about it being irrepairable. Still waiting for feedback, with a contract like this how is there no warranty on a phone advertised for being water resistant? I asked them to contact Sony, have had no correspondence at all.
