Contract Cancellation Problems with Virgin Active

I just called the Virgin Active Claremont branch to cancel my contract since I am no longer on Discovery Medical Aid and subsequently Vitality by virtue of moving to a company medical aid policy. To my gross surprise, I was told I am required to pay a contact balance of 2800 to cancel even though the months haven't even been used. I don't understand how a company can charge a period based release subscription fee for for services not even used as if it were a credit transaction. I was not informed of this when signing the contract as I would definitely not have signed it knowing I cant cancel freely especially for services paid in advance. The lady I spoke to refused to give me a call reference and her name and transferred me to a number that isn't answered which I found downright rude. I was asking for the detail in order to compile my report to forward my situation to my legal service provider as I am sure Virgin would point to fine print contract details and the saddest thing is these were never communicated. I am truly truly appalled at this lack of transparency. Definatley would not recommend people who do business this way to anyone, anywhere.
