Virgin Active South Africa

I originally took out a virgin active account in 2006, at the time the consultant ask me what type of contract I wanted I opted for a premium one year membership and paid more for the service because the contract was for a one year period. Ten months into the contract I stop going to gym I then received a call from virgin asking me why I am not using it. I explained I was travelling and was not able to go any longer. They then offered to put the contract on hold for three months. I said its fine the contract its coming to an end.
Three year later I changed banks from Standard to FNB approximately 2 months later I received a call from virgin active requesting two months payment for the virgin active subscription. I then went to standard and requested a full statement and realised they have been debiting my account for years.
I spoke to virgin active head office and they said there was an auto renew clause in their contract and tried to justify that cell phone contracts are the same. I said to them but with cell phone contracts they notify you two months in advance when the contract is up for renewal. They then offered if I renew the contract they will cancel the debt.
