The Baby Exchange is a second hand baby goods store. In November of last year I took a baby carrier to their store in Pretoria to be priced. It was left at the store to be priced by the owner. They were unable to meet my price so I arranged to collect the carrier. In the interim, a customer saw the carrier in the store and insisted that she wanted to purchase it. The item was sold via the Baby Exchange to the customer and I was paid R200
I had also rented a wooden crib from the store and paid a deposit of R500 for it in December.
I was informed about a month and a half after the sale of the carrier that the buyer was unable to use it due to the absence of a strap. The store gave her a refund and I was told that I was to pay back the R200. This is a second hand store selling second hand goods and it is the responsibility of the buyer and store to check the goods before purchase. I insisted that I would not be paying the money back as I could not understand why the customer was refunded. Later, when I returned the crib, R150 was taken off the deposit for the carrier and I was given R350 instead of R500.This is a brazen breech of contract!
