I purchased Pick n Pay brand Jaffer Cakes at Pick n Pay Cavendish Square yesterday 21 January. To my dismay, when I got home, I saw that the expiry date on it was 16 Jan 2014, therefore it had expired already. I was in the same store again today and saw that ALL of the remaining packs on the shelf were dated either the same date or even older, i.e. 4 Jan 2014! This product was on promotion in the store, however it cannot be acceptable that the sale price was due to the expiration date which had passed and hoping that customers would get so excited at the price that the expiry date would go by unnoticed. My historical impression of Pick n Pay was that it prided itself in its quality products hence their money back guarantee. This clearly no longer seems to be the case as standards seem to be dropping.
I am now doubtful about what I purchase in store and means having to remember to double check dates on everything. Might as well be shopping at one of the other chain supermarkets where one would not be surprised to see this.
Extremely disappointing to say the very least!
