Unclear return of goods disclaime

I Bought a carpet on Saturday the 11 January 14 on arriving home found the length to be short contacted the branch and asked if it could be returned and was informed that it could be done as long it was not used and within 7 days. On arrival at the store today the 15 January 14. Perina Naidoo said that they do not return carpets due to hygiene purposes and we should have been informed by the sales person. The salesman did not inform us. She then said that if I had the name of the person that I spoke to then she can sort it out. What difference does that make? There are no signs displayed not even on the receipt. It is shocking that hygiene is brought up when the carpets are left in the open with no packaging, people can walk all over it. We did not complain when we purchased 2 other carpets from the store - so much for the sterile environment!
