No refund or replacement for damaged goods

I purchased a pair of sneakers on 16th December 2013 at an amount of R995. The item was purchased cash and Spitz having a reputation of good quality shoes I didn't hesitate getting them for such an amount. Within 2 weeks of hardly even wearing the shoes the sole of the shoe on the side got damaged. I then returned them to the store on 6th January 2014 since clearly the manufacturing of these shoes was poorly done. I do not do any construction or heavy duties including adventurous activities such as hiking at all. The item was worn on simple occasion lunch outs. The assistants and manager of the store told me bluntly that this was my own fault and refused to refund or exchange them under the 30days policy. The Consumer Law states that "Consumers are permitted to return goods to suppliers, without penalty and at the suppliers' risk and expense, within a period of six (6) months after delivery of such goods, if the goods are of inferior quality, unsafe or defective." I have left the shoes at the store yesterday as I told them I do not want low quality shoes. I If I wanted cheap shoes I would have gone to Mr. Price but brought my money to them instead. I want refund or replacement!
