Not allowed to use debit card

After shopping in this place for more than 5 years I am now told that I am unable to use my 5 year old sons debit card that I use for savings. The cashier told me to go draw cash at the atm and walk back to gve them cash instead of standing and asking for better assistance. Where is the logic??
