I fully understand that the liquor laws in KZN are such that all bottle stores close at 5pm on a Saturday.
I entered your Southway Mall store before 5pm on Saturday 21.9.2013. I had some shopping to do within the store so thinking that I was in the store I would be allowed to purchase a bottle of wine along with my shopping. However when I arrived at the liquor section it was closed off (17h05). I tried to explain that I had entered the store before 5pm but was given a blunt no. I asked to speak to a manager and was told the same thing. He also said there is a very fine line as they could loose their license. So if that is the law, then tell any clients that may be shopping and have any alcohol in their trolleys to check out and then come back in to continue their shopping. Personally I believe this to be ridiculous. If I had alcohol in my trolley and either was in a queue and reached the check out after 5pm or continued my shopping and then checked out after closing time of the alcohol section would my purchase be refused? Whilst I fully understand the laws, Checkers needs to inform clients close to bottle store closing times, of what will happen should they have any alcohol.
