Buy a gift card and be restricted

I received a Truworths Gift Card. Unfortunately I can buy anything in store but not a cell phone.

I fail to understand the terms and conditions. I may pay cash or buy a cell phone on account but not a gift card.
The idea behind a gift card is usually to entice the customber to buy whatever is available in a store without bothering with Cash.

If a gift card was purchased with cash, the same cash could have been used to buy the phone.
Truworths scores on the deal as they have received your cash in advance.
One should be able to purchase anything in the store.

Something does not sound right with this policy.
