PICK 'N PAY - I PIcked but could not pay!

According to Pick 'n Pay regulation, and South African law we are restricted from buying alcohol after 5pm on a Saturday. It so happened that I joined the queue to pay for my goods (which included two bottles of wine) before 5pm. I got to the till to pay and was refused by the supervisor because 5pm had passed. She then called for the manager who also refused to put the sale through. What bothers me is a question of what is morally and ethically correct! Surely it is Pick and Pay's duty to abide by their regulations if a customer abides by the regulations with the intention to pay before the allocated time. I was in the queue! I suggest that Pick and Pay come up with a contingency plan to fast track customers with alcohol, to pay for their drinks rather than being so about the cut off time. I have been a constant customer at Pick n Pay but this incident has made me want to shop elsewhere. The apathy from the supervisor and the manager was very disappointing. The cashier (Slindile Mbambo) and packer were the only positives. I wish I took down their names. They should be promoted. Excellent treatment noted!
