ADT misleads people

ADT does not give quotes over the phone. We moved into a property and the person that stayed in the house had a contract with ADT. We contacted ADT and asked if we can get a 12 month contract, because that is more or less the same price as a new alarm system. We asked the agent 3 times if it is a 12 month contract and he confirmed. The 12 months is now over and we need to give a month notice as the agent told us to do and ADT says that we cannot cancel the contract as the FINE pint in the contract states it is for 24 month. We pay almost R400 a month and ADT states it is a 70% rebate. Trying to phone ther customer service is a nightmare. Uninformed call centre staff answers the phone and it takes up to 30 minutes to get someone to answer and a big effort to get the right information. 3 calls and this matter is still not resolved. ADT misleads people. Is there a consumer council or Ombudsman for security to assist us to resolve this matter. The sales person clearly mislead us when signing the contract. How do we get out of a contact we we did not agree to??
