Yesterday morning the 3rd of March 2022 I was at Jabulani Mall to withdraw and deposit money from an FNB ATM next to KFC and FNB bank. While I was still busy I was suddenly approached by a very rude security guard who just stood in front of me and told me I am required to come to some control room. I asked the guard if I had done anything wrong and he refused to answer me and only said I must come with him to the control room. The guard had no name badge to identify if really he works at Jabulani Mall and he never introduced himself to me so he could just be one of the robbers to me. I had to come with the guard to that control room and when we got inside I was approached again by another rude security guard who again had no name badge and he also never introduced himself. To be honest at that moment I was scared because here I am sitting where thieves, guilty people or criminals caught at the mall are normally questioned. The second guard is now asking me what am I doing at the ATM, why am I taking long at the ATM, HOW MUCH DID I WITHDRAW and threatens to search me, I had to show the guard money I had withdrawn, the bank card I was using. The guard was totally out of line and I felt like I am being treated as some sort of criminal. I was questioned for close to about half an hour by the guard. Eventually I called on my cell phone my mother at home and he spoke to the guard and explained that she asked me to withdraw money for her and my grand mother and use some of the money to pay funeral insurances. The guards never apologized for suspecting the wrong person and I had to ask someone outside i.e. another security guard for the name of the guy who I was being escorted by. That is how I got the name Khanyile and that's all i got. The other guard I could not get his name so I was interrogated by strangers. The same morning I was late at work due to the guards wasting my time. The two guards where very unprofessional and violated my rights as a customer. In fact the above matter is a civil matter and I went to enquire about the matter at Jabulani police station and was advised to open an intimidation case against the two guards. I am very disappointed by the level of professionalism of the guards and next time I doubt if I will be free withdrawing money at Jabulani Mall. I hope that the guards will be sent on training on how you treat customers an no one is guilty until proven not assumptions.
