Confusion Reigns Supreme

In August or September I'd requested to have the service disconnected which was done. I was in Durban and relocating to Johannesburg. A few days ago i emailed them to find out whether i could pay into the account and not have it activated as i will be moving into my place soon. They then tell me that i owe in excess of R400. My question to them, which they couldn't answer is, DSTV is paid in advance, i.e. If you don't pay, you cannot watch, so how is it possible that i owe when the service was suspended LAST YEAR at my request at the end of the month. They then tell me that there was a bad debt written off, but because i contacted them i must pay it. HOW? If i cancelled at the end of the month, before the start of a new month and you have to pay in advance for the service, how do i owe them.

The emails back and forth between the call centre is also confusing, one says yes i can pay in and have a credit balance and when i'm ready i can call them to get it activated, others say no that is not possible, as soon as payment is received the service is activated, so which is it? Really, if the staff don't know what is possible and what is not then where does that leave us as consumers?
