I began renting a flat on 01/07/2013, I terminate the lease at the beginning of November. The owner now refuse to pay my deposit back, he says I am accountable for the agent fees to find a new tenant.
The new tenant was found by the owner himself on gumtree, and the deposit and rent she is paying exceeds what i was paying.
He also says he will only pay the deposit back by the end of December. I asked the agent to verify the amount of deposit the owner is holding back, he says its right.
According to the consumer act I only have to by a cancellation fee. So how is it possible more than 70% of my deposit is lost.
Please assist.
